Deepening Ethical Decision-Making at the Board Table

Date: Tuesday, March 18 2014 - 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM

Description:  How does one deepen integrity and strengthen governance within Board decision-making? What strategic thinking processes and preparation practices support ethical decision-making at board meetings? How can individual directors participate most effectively, and what attributes matter most in board recruitment?

This two-hour webinar is divided into two segments. The first deals with actions that can be taken in advance of board meetings to ensure that directors are well prepared to make decisions that take ethical values and principles into account. The second focuses on processes and approaches that aid ethical decision-making during board meetings.

In each segment, Jane Garthson will present practical ideas gleaned from over twenty years of consulting to board and holding board, officer and senior staff positions. She will take questions from attendees, and invite them to share their own ideas. Her information will address the role of those who support decision-making as well as that of the decision-makers, individually and as a group. The information will also help organizations consider group decision-making competencies when recruiting and orienting directors. In both segments, the focus will be the most useful questions for decision-makers to ask of themselves and of the group, to make the wisest choices and also to fulfill their duty of care.

Outcome: Deepening Decision-Making at the Board Table is intended to provide attendees with practical, effective ideas to support ethical decision-making that they can act on themselves as well as share with their boards. Attendees will be able to incorporate ideas quickly into advance board packages, board communications, agendas and meeting processes, as well as consider implications for future recruitment and training.
