EthicScan has three kinds of summary reports on specific companies.

(A) Profile Report

The Profile reports on the corporate social responsibility and behavior of Canadian businesses using over 200 criteria in ten headings. Two sample reports are available: EthicScan Profile 01 (Research in Motion Ltd.), EthicScan Profile 02 (Investors Group Inc.) (in Adobe Acrobat PDF format.)

(B) Rating Report

This 2-6 page report summarizes the social and environmental performance of Canadian businesses in the categories specified above. It identifies relative strengths and weaknesses, and in addition provides a comparative text assessment relative to other companies in its sector and with all companies in the EthicScan 1500 DataBase. This 3 page report captures 80 different measures of CSR followed by a rating of all companies in the sector. Two sample reports are available: Investor Report 01 (FPI Limited), Investor Report 01 (George Weston Limited) (in Adobe Acrobat PDF format.)

All summary reports are original, have been shown at an earlier stage to the company spokesperson for comment, and offer a broad range of information: from progressive staff policies to Canadian sourcing, from involvement in repressive regimes to environmental performance, from corporate ethics training to health and safety violations. Since January 2001, we have applied new Corporate Social Responsibility assessment criteria to all our profiles. Each company profiled is assessed using a letter grade in each of ten criteria. The criteria reflect results of a thorough Modified Delphi process incorporating comments about what are state-of-the-art corporate social responsibility criteria in Canada, from up to fifty experts, including academics (business ethics, consumer studies), social justice advocates, consumer groups, regulators, environmental groups, and others.

The in-depth Corporate Profiles are typically required by corporate executives, lawyers, and institutional investors. By way of contrast individual consumers, journalists, social justice activists and procurement professionals are satisfied with the level of detail presented in our Rating Reports.
