Licensed Firms: The Scoping Exercise, using this Research Protocol, are undertaken and led by firms licensed annually by EthicScan. As of October 2000, three firms (and their constituent associates) are licensed: EthicScan (Toronto), Best Management Practices Network (Truro) and SmithOBrien (Boston). Scoping Research Report: The initial product consists of the following:
- Clarify the proposal (0.5)
- Discuss the costs and benefits, including various stakeholders and geographies (1.0)
- Identify globally-relevant internal measurement criteria (2.0)
- Knit together this initiative with others being conducted by EthicScan and its partners (0.5)
- Identify the internal information management and economic modeling needs (5.0)
- Identify other corporate initiatives, nationally and internationally (3.0)
- Propose a communications strategy, both internal (data gathering and reporting) and external (reporting, stakeholder dialogue, and verifying) (1.5)
- Obtain a legal opinion on the liabilities (0.5)
- Propose specific alternatives in terms of phasing, locations for testing, modeling, and an implementation protocol (2.0)

Scoping Report Deliverables
The deliverables would be
(a) a 15-25 page Report, consisting of an executive summary, an analysis, and an action plan including recommendations toward an implementation and communications plan,
(b) a research appendix, including a scoping of economic model parameters, and
(c) a presentation to your senior management committee.
