Jane is principal consultant of Mills Garthson & Associates, which is dedicated to strengthening Canada’s nonprofit organizations through enhanced leadership, ethics and technology.

Jane is a founding member and past Chair of the Ethics Practitioners’ Association of Canada.  She now sits on its prestigious Advisory Council.  From 2002-2—4, Jane was a member of the Ethics Review Committee of the Canadian Council for International Cooperation, the umbrella body for Canadian NGO’s such as Oxfam and Save the Children.

Past audiences for Jane's ethics training include International Institute of Public Ethics, United Way of Greater Toronto, Canadian Society of Association Executives, Association of Fundraising Professionals, Concordia University, the Aga Khan Foundation, Ontario Community Support Association, the Canadian Association of Rehabilitation Professionals, high school students on behalf of Amnesty International, and organizational ethics practitioners like herself.

Her ethics consulting work for EthicScan has included major projects joint with David Nitkin for a foreign government, to enhance the ethics of elected officials, as well as a precedent-setting ethics audit of a financial cooperative, and training senior management and quality control staff of a major manufacturer.  She has helped organizations with sponsorship policies, partner screening, ethical decision-making and other aspects of ethics awareness, monitoring and reinforcement.  For the last three years, Jane has written a monthly charity ethics column for Village Vibes, the e-newsletter of www.charityvillage.com.

In the fall of 2002, Jane organized the programming for a two-day conference on Managing Integrity and Accountability in Government, Crown Agencies and Civil Society, part of EthicScan Canada’s Ethical Leadership Week.  She spoke on best practices in administration and accountability and moderated a panel on integrity tools.  She trained participants at a one-day workshop on Social & Ethics Auditing, and spoke on ethical partnerships at the two-day session for business participants.
