Richard has over 23 years of practical experience in his field and a proven track record:
- 1977 member of the process control team at AECL that used benchmarking to increase production capacity at Port Hawkesbury Heavy Water plant from 80% to 110% of rated capacity
- 14 year career in the oil industry where he become one of Canada's top ranked professionals
- Member of the marketing task force for Petro-Canada's takeover of Gulf Oil
- Developed and implemented the strategic/operational plan that established PC's Atlantic Canadian Industrial Marketing Division
- Member of the task force that developed PC's IT Industrial Marketing benchmarking system
- Led 3 year 8 nation "excellence" benchmarking studies for the federal government
- Worked with key public and private sector partners to develop a national and Atlantic Canadian small and medium enterprise (SME) skill development strategy for the federal government
- Developed a national SME excellence benchmarking study
- He is the first person to define the 5 stage process and 16 core competencies of excellence
- 1999, excellence study advisor for the American Productivity & Quality Center's international excellence benchmarking study to define IT based performance management systems of 5 of the world's oldest and most successful organizations. (Boeing, 3M, Nortel Networks, GTE, and Caterpillar).
- Awarded 3-year contract to develop an Internet based Benchmarking and monitoring system for Western Valley Development Authority's $11.5 million "Smart Community" project.
- Teaches organizational excellence and benchmarking at Dalhousie University's extension dept
- Currently working with a private sector client to use benchmarking to develop a North American best in class operational facility
